Raise your hand if your linen closet is where you throw all the things that you know you’re just going to forget you even own. That was sooooo me for far too long. It is my 2019 mission to make all things neat, tidy and FUNCTIONAL!
I have intentionally let the downstairs linen closet be ignored because I was dreading it the most. Not any longer.
I started by pulling everything out and just tossing it on the floor. I needed a visual of just how terrible I was for letting it get so out of hand. It worked. I found that I truly didn’t need 95% of what we had in there!
I waved my Marie Kundo wand and cleared the clutter. I threw so many blankets, pillows + household goods away. They were items that were worn and I knew we’d never use again. They were back-up’s for the back-up’s!
I’m a huge container person (and I love me a good Target trip), so this ended up being so much more fun that I had anticipated.
We’ve been totally feeling the light + airy modern farmhouse style, so that is what we are gradually transitioning towards as we decorate our new home. While I know that this is JUST a linen closet, I didn’t want to steer away from the overall look of the home because I knew I’d find myself right back at square 1 in 2-3 months wanting to redo this space if it wasn’t done correctly.
I wanted neutral storage units, zero clutter + only the necessities taking up space.
The very top shelf has air filters and a humidifier that’s needed frequently for the baby. Not the prettiest, but practical. The lower shelf has a spare comforter for guests.

I love organization and this project turned out perfect for what we were needing.
How have you organized your linen closet? Is yours in desperate need of an overhaul?
XO,
