I was privileged enough to get to visit the “Best Chiropractor” (voted by Charleston Living Magazine), Dr. Ty Cooper this week. Dr. Cooper has been practicing for 20+ years and is a freaking magician, y’all!
I went in for a full adjustment service and left with a sore tush and a whole heck of a lot of knowledge. Yes, a bruised butt cheek.
As a relatively new mother (Charli is 1 year old) I had no idea what to expect with pregnancy, labor + delivery, or post-partum. Truth be told, my pregnancy AND labor + delivery were literally as easy as they possibly could have ever been.
However, I did get an epidural and did push a human being out of my lady bits so there was bound to be SOME sort of discomfort at SOME point. That came in the form of chronic lower back pain for me over the last year.
When going in for my service Dr. Cooper asked me what my problem areas were, spoke to me about how common it is for mothers to have this exact issue, and then walked me through how he could start working towards fixing this issue for me.
He first did a bit of massage therapy on my problem area, including my bum. Didn’t see that coming? Me either. Fun fact though: MANY women blow a butt cheek out (or two) when going through pregnancy and/or L+D. WHO KNEW?!
And apparently my right buttocks fell victim.
After some massage therapy which basically irritated the problem areas, I was hooked me up to a small “shocking” device for about 12 minutes. It essentially sent “shocks” to where the patches were placed on my lower back and booty.
After this, he gave me a full adjustment. This is where all the fun “snap, crackles and pops” take place. Y’all, my neck sounded like I was a goner. I don’t think I’ve ever popped that thing. Ever.

The appointment was quick, easy and relatively painless. Dr. Cooper did state that it generally takes 5-7 visit before there are any “long term” results felt from chiropractic services. Which means… I’m going back. 🙂
I left feeling so much less stiff in my neck and back. My butt cheek is sore and bruised, but that was a small price to pay to understand what the heck has been causing my discomforts!
It’s now been a few days and my lower back is not feeling irritated unless I sit in my office chair for too long. Which let me add, you shouldn’t do anyway!! Treat this as your reminder to get up once an hour and walk around.
I wholeheartedly do feel as though going to a chiropractor is a necessity as we age. (I’ll spare you my HR/benefits professional thoughts on the medical/pharmaceutical industry and how it affects the chiropractic industry.) It is especially helpful if you are a woman who has child-reared or even plan to!
If you are in the Charleston, SC area I highly recommend visiting Cooper Chiropractic. You will NOT be disappointed!
Disclaimer: I am 26 years old. No woman should feel like shes 80 at this age. Go get your sh*t adjusted.
